Surya World invites you to help an orphanage run by the Premananda Trust in South India
The orphanage was founded in 1989 by late Swami Premananda in a remote village near Trichy in the Tamil Nadu region. Today the orphanage cares for approximately 600 children and is comprised of:
A school that helps hundreds of the most underprivileged children in the area.
The majority of the pupils are full boarders at the orphanage, where they are fed and housed. They also receive clothing, medical care, uniforms, schoolbooks and educational costs that are met entirely by the school. In addition, this school provides free education to over 150 day students that are given a free lunch and medical care.
A hospital that provides free medical care to those in need.
Abject poverty and lack of information have left large swathes of the population without access to proper medical care. This hospital not only provides healthcare for the pupils and orphans but also to the inhabitants of surrounding villages. It is currently being refurbished, in order to expand its reach and provide better care for the sickly.
Farmland, plantations and orchards that enable self-sufficiency.
The formerly barren land has been toiled by volunteers and locals, who have covered the site with a variety of fruit trees, vegetables and plants that enable them to be self-sufficient both from a nutritional and financial perspective.
Today, a number of volunteers live at the orphanage offering their skills full time to the children and to the vision of the institution. Others, such as members of the Surya team, visit regularly for shorter periods, offering direct support to the children, the management and to provide financial and other resources.
It’s no secret that today, continuing to transform the lives of so many requires a steady stream of financial support. If you would like to contribute to the development of these worthy projects, your donations would be very welcome. In the developing world, a little can go a long way.
Thank you for your support!
